Paul teaching Timothy to stir up the gift again that he received through the laying on of hands. There are six things that we need to stir up. I. Stir up the gift of the Holy Spirit. 2. Stir up the power of the Holy Spirit. 3. Stir up our testimony. 4. Stir up the power of the Gospel. 5. Stir up our calling and finally, 6. Stir up the gifts that God has given to us for service.
For the disciple, the evidence of the filling of the Holy Spirit is the fruit of the Spirit and that should then flow out through the gifts of the Spirit. The disciple is to be a channel and a vessel for the Holy Spirit working in us and out to others.
As disciples, we are to request of God to give to us the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we will have a purpose and ministry within Christ's Body, the church. Gifts are given according to God's will and purpose for our lives. They are given to equip us so that we can do the works of service.
The Holy Spirit comes into the disciple with power and authority, giving us the ability to overcome the strongholds of this world and the sins in our lives. God shares His power with us, the more we draw closer to Him the more of His anointing power flows through us.
